Singapore

Before returning to leeds and my final year i was selected over summer to go to Singapore for the International Animation Challenge. To be able to go to Singapore and see an entirely new part of the world was amazing and the travelling as well as the competiotn gave me a new perspective on the animation industry on a more global scale. I saw the Singapore students to be more tech oriented rather than art and there was definitely a more industrious approach in their exploration of things rather than an art approach.

The competiotn itself entailed schools from England, Singapore, Japan, Australia, France and Thailand to send students to singapore where they would be teamed up with other international students (2 singapore students, 2 random international students) and they were required to create a 20 second animation that began and ended with the same image and focused on the word connect as theme.

I really enjoyed working with people I was new to and getting thrown into the deep end in regards to the project we were able to communicate reasonably well considering we were new to each other and I also got to know a lot of the other students, some of which I still keep in touch with now.

Below is the collective animation that was made by all of us. My groups animation is first in the sequence.

During the awards and screening I got a chance to talk with someone from Disney Asia and while he was in the localisation depsartment he still had the creative mindset and thought process of an artist and to hear him talk about being passionate and excited by stories and animation while I myself was feeling rather low was fantastic motivation.
