Drawing Practice - Anatomy

It has recently come to my attention that i have a need to improve my drawing skills. I personally want to be able to take my drawings further and into more detail as illustrations and to work simply for animations not because i HAVE to as i can't draw any more detailed but because i CHOOSE to.

The first step is getting figures anatomically correct. I can do observational drawings to gather movement and abstract imagery but when it comes to making accurate drawings of people i struggle. So i will be posting the development of my anatomy drawings while learning from the book 'Figure drawing for all its worth.

These are my first attempts at rough arms and outline as well as locating all the muscles in the body.

Instagram Account

To try and get my work out there and to see more work for inspiration i have decided to make an instagram account, that being said i don't really know what i should be posting.

I decided to get it so that i could follow my classmates work as well as having a platform to show my work, both  personal and college work. I am however finding it difficult to put images up as i feel a need to make them a good quality that i feel proud about but i guess it comes with time.

My instagram name is @a_guy_draws. I wanted to come up with something a bit different to just a name so i think it makes a nice (slightly cheesy) pun.

Effective Presentation

Presentations are about communication. the communication of a story or a journey. Wether it is about ideas, thoughts, concepts, progress, or the resolution of a project. it gives the presenter a chance to get feedback and constructive criticism.

A presentation is treating your audience like idiots, like they know nothing about the theme giving you a chance to get all the important information out but in digestible amounts to get the main point of your presentation across. This means less text but not huge text. Text should only be a prompt on speaking and getting the point across verbally. The presentation isn't meant to just be your script to read of but more of a prompt to support your speaking and ideas.

Presentations shouldn't be stressful, you should be prepared and ready, knowing your subject, keeping the points simple. Images are a good way to help you get your idea across but using clip art can suggest a form of laziness or rushed development.

Mistakes can happen and if it does happen don't worry just carry on correcting yourself. but to make sure this doesn't happen, practice. Practice your presentation alone, with friends or family make sure you've got it down. The day of the presentation be well rested and get in early to be prepared and ready.

Who are you?

During this session we looked at what personality types we were taking into consideration things such as extroverts and introverts and other factors in order to get across how we might think or learn. The personality types are made up of:
Introvert or Extrovert (I or E) do you get energy or fulfilment from yourself or other people around you?
Sensing or Intuition (S or N) do you take information from the world around you as it is given or information that you yourself believe in, from imagination?
Thinking or Feeling (T or F) the process of information received, either through logic or decision made based upon emotional response?
Judging or Perceiving (J or P) do you organise and structure your life working towards a schedule or is it more free and fluid with improvisions and possible alternatives?

INFP - The Idealists, performing noble service to society
This is my apparent personality tip, I'm not entirely sure as to what it means or how it affects my judgement of something however. I do feel it stands for me to a certain extent but its something i cant quite explain unfortunately.

What is reflective practice?

Reflective Practice is looking back at ones work and judging the work you have done to further improve it.

"By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is the noblest; second, by imitation which is the easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest." (Confucius 551BC - 479 BC, Chinese Philosopher)

Tis quote was presented to us and covers the idea of reflection of our practice. Reflection itself is looking back on what one has done and viewing our own work seeing what we make of it so we are judging our own successes showing the improvements and failures. Imitation is mere copying with no originality so it doesn't require reflection as a better original is out there. Experience is a case of reflection with failure and development so either a work in progress or rejected piece.

We are expected to do reflective practice at college showing our development, failure and success. How we would improve the work we have done or wether we need to change it at all. Reflection is NOT, description of what happened, it went well/ badly, blaming others for our mistakes. What is REQUIRED of reflection, articulated, expressive personal insight into what happened, the positive/ negative effect and why, what did you learn, could something of been done differently and if you had the opportunity what would you do differently.

Taking into consideration all that has been taught, both directly through tutorials and teaching sessions as well as passive learning, such as what is learnt from books and the world around you that has been relevant towards the development of your project.

Infected By Art Competition

Infected by art is an online competition website that hosts a variety of competitions. I was shown it by a second year on my course as a good opportunity to have a bit more of an incentive to draw digitally and to constantly go back to an image to improve upon it.

The competition i entered was the the 'Infected by art book volume 4' which was an open competition covering a wide area of fantasy based themes such as horror, fantasy, sci-fi etc. i had a month to draw my image and get it sent, this was around november time.

I chose to focus digitally for my media and i entered with out the intention to win but to have a deadline to aim towards. The piece i made was called 'Dark City' and featured a blue colour palette and allowed me to work with varieties of lighting mainly. the actual drawing side of it i feel wasn't to brilliant as it was very rough overall and failed to reach the level of realism required for the competition.
